Jump Rope and Physical Fitness
Jump rope can burn the calories in your body in a matter of days, at the minimum cost. Incorporating the jump rope into your exercise routine will make your body responsive and well coordinated, two important conditions that a body should maintain to function well and be resistant to disease.
Moreover, with a fit body comes a healthy heart . And so, just follow the right steps in doing a jump rope. During the exercise for example, monitor your shoulders and knees until they adopt themselves to the jump rope routine.
Buying the Right Jump Rope
Here's how to buy the right jump rope for you. First, check the length by stepping on the middle half portion of the rope while holding on to the handles. If the handles level your shoulders then it's the right jump rope size for you. In other words, the handles should neither go beyond the shoulders nor stop short at the level of your stomach.
Learning the Jumping Rope Basics
Before you start jumping, wear the right clothes and shoes and avoid overly tight apparel that restricts the blood circulation. Take time to adjust. Relax your shoulders by initially placing your arms by your sides and swinging the rope your wrists. Make your body erect and tuck in your stomach.
Running while Skipping
This type of jump rope is virtually running in the place where you are and skipping at the same time. Lift your foot one at a time while the rope passes from under your feet. Always maintain a straight back.
Feet Jumping
After getting used to the regular skipping, try using both foot rather than just one. This time lift your feet from the ground when the rope passes from under. A few variations can be done , like hopping, while doing the feet jumping. At all times, maintain the fun.
Introducing a Routine
Beginners may find jump rope to be difficult in the start. Setting a routine is therefore necessary. Allocate enough time for warm-ups, work outs, and rest periods. Be consistent in following the routine until enough stamina for longer jump rope workouts is achieved.
Formalizing a Routine
After getting yourself used to the normal skipping exercise, establish yourself a solid jump rope routine. It may be a little difficult at first but once you've learned the "tricks" of the trade so to speak, progress can be made. Ideally it is best to begin with short sprints per day gradually increasing into longer ones.

Can you do a jump rope exercise without the actual rope?
Whenever i have tried jumping rope, i always double jump and the workout takes a lot of time and doesn't feel effective. I am a beginner and i would like to know if i can do a workout without the rope
but mimic the same hand movements and jumping as if i am really skipping and whether or not the workout will still be effective. I am 110 pounds and 5'5 inches tall. My stomach also hurts after a few minutes and i can only go until 10 minutes. I also have lots of calf pain the next day or two.
Can you give me some advice.
It's good to double jump. If it doesn't feel effective, then you aren't doing it correctly. Jump rope is some of the best cardio around and jumping for 12-15 minutes straight should make you breathless.
You cannot do a workout without the rope but mimic the same hand movements. Part of the exercise is coordination-based. If you want to incorporate jumping into your workout, and really dislike the jumprope, I suggest that you start doing box jumps. It's where you jump on and off of a box.
The fact that you have a lot of calf pain indicates that your current workout is effective as you are creating the microtears in your muscle which causes soreness and cause your body to repair the muscles to be stronger. Only going 10 minutes is the reason that you haven't seen many results from this workout.
